Our client, a European smart lock manufacturer, approached BG Motor with a demand for a compact gear motor to fit into a newly designed high-security digital door lock. The main technical challenges were:
Limited internal space in the lock body, requiring ultra-compact motor dimensions
High torque requirement to drive the locking bolt and ensure reliability
Low noise operation, with target noise level under 35 dB
Compatibility with a 4xAA battery system, requiring low power consumption
Long lifespan to support over 30,000 cycles with minimal maintenance
Need for rapid response and stable performance under various temperatures
After multiple rounds of technical discussion and prototype evaluation, BG Motor provided a customized micro DC gear motor solution. The selected motor featured:
12V DC voltage with optimized gear ratio (1:200) to deliver torque up to 2.5 kg.cm
Full metal gearbox to ensure durability and torque consistency
Special noise-dampening grease and refined gear teeth for quiet operation (<35 dB)
Compact structure (motor body under 27mm diameter), perfect for tight spaces
Optional magnetic encoder for position feedback and unlocking accuracy
Low current startup design to maximize battery life in standby and working modes
We also provided mechanical drawings, motor control suggestions, and adapted the motor shaft to perfectly match the client's internal locking structure.
